Food chains won't put calories on menus

food chains 64
If you are quite conscious regarding your calorie counts then this news is not going to cheer you up, as food chains that include Burger king, Mc Donald’s and Wendy’s, plan not to put calories counts on their menus as a result enforcement of calorie-count rule is likely to delay further.

Food chains’ this defiance is going to gong against New York City’s new rule, which requires all the food chains to mention calorie counts on their menus. In the coming days, this tussle between New York City’s new rule and food chains is likely to swell further, as big food giants like Taco Bell and KFC have also not shown any sign of following this new rule.

Well, how far these food chains go on with their reluctance to follow the new rule, only time will tell, as the city will not fine anyone for violating it until October. The basic idea behind their reluctance to abide by this new rule is that this new rule merely gives way to unnecessary formalities, for these companies have been providing its customers with necessary nutritional information for almost 30 years through fliers and posters.

On the other end, those who favor this new rule by New York City, states that food chains’ reluctance to accept this rule is motivated by the very fact that mere mention of calorie count may put their sales at stake. Exposing this fact, Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science remarks:

They are afraid that when people see these eye-popping calorie numbers, they might switch to a smaller size… they feel it is gong to hurt sales.

No doubt, facts laid down by food chains sound quite convincing but on diving deeper into the whole concept, it could be said that so-called hike in the consumption of fast foods well-known as the fast food boom has done much bad than good for the people; especially as far as their health issue is concerned. It is quite worrying that this much of rise in their (fast foods’) consumption has not only keyed up obesity and other health problems in developed countries like UK and US but has made its presence felt in many Asian countries as well by contributing to obesity and diabetes in Asian kids
Therefore, New York cities this new rule has some logic, for those who are fast food junkies would at least think twice after seeing calorie counts on menus, which their favorite fast foods carry.
