Acne and blemishes tend to appear most of the time on face. Some might experience acne occasionally; some others have to live with it throughout. In whatever way, acne is the least preferred skin problem and we want to get rid of it as soon as it comes. Getting rid of acne is not impossible, if we take some proper steps. Read on to learn how you can get rid of acne and blemishes permanently.

1. Do not wash face too frequently

Avoid washing your face too much and too often. Many believe that dirty skin causes acne or blemishes which are not at all true. Frequent washing of face can make the acne worse. Constant scrubbing of your skin affects acne to rise. Hence wash your face not more than two times a day and use a mild or medicated soap.

2. Opt for an oil free cleanser

Always opt for oil free soaps and cleansers as they do not clog the skin pores or cause any blackheads and acne. Go for products that are marked ‘oil free’, ‘non-acnegenic’, or ‘non-comedogenic’. The ideal way to wash face is to apply the soap and rub it using your fingertips; it is also recommended to rinse the face with warm water. Use a soft towel, especially to wipe your face. Use an appropriate cleanser suitable for your skin type. A good cleanser can do wonders to your skin while a bad one can ruin your skin completely.

3. Eat healthy food

Healthy foods like fruits and raw vegetables, specially containing vitamins E and A, will always keep your skin glowing and can prevent acne. However this does not mean that you have to sacrifice your favorite oily snacks or chocolates. It is just a myth that these foods cause acne. As far as acne is concerned eating habits do not affect it much.

4. Drink plenty of water

We all know that water is a good skin purifier. It is recommended to drink at least eight to ten glasses of water to keep the skin hydrated and fresh. Water also cleans the body toxins.

5. Do not use excessive cosmetics

Cosmetics, especially foundation and blush, tend to clog the skin pores specially the oil-based ones. Instead use light cosmetics that are in the form of powder as they are harmless and would not clog the pores of your skin. These are generally minerals based. Always remove your make up before going to bed; use a good cleanser for this purpose. Always check the expiry date of your cosmetic; using an expired cosmetic can create damaged skin.

6. Use oil-free foundation

Try to opt for an oil free foundation; it will not only give you a clean look but also avoid clogging the pores. Splash your face with cold water prior to applying foundation or any make up. Follow this by applying a good layer of moisturizer.

7. Do not sunbathe or get tanned

Sunbathing can harm your skin. The harmful rays of the skin can cause skin cancer. It also leads to premature skin aging and wrinkles. The popular notion that tanning clears the skin is only a myth. Also if you are using any acne medication which includes topical retinoids, do not go for sunbath at any case, as that makes your skin more prone to sun damage.

8. Use sunscreen

Apply good amount of sunscreen before stepping out in the sun. Always go for an oil-free sunscreen, the sun protection factor (SPF) of sunscreen should be at least above 15 or even higher. Sunscreen helps in protecting the skin from the harmful ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays. These rays can damage the skin to a major extent. Reapply sunscreen in every two hours for maximum protection.

9. Do not use greasy hair products

Avoid applying greasy hair products as they tend to clog the skin pores when the hair touches your skin. Otherwise ensure to tie your hair back. If you have an oily hair, wash it regularly and keep it dry.

10. Keep hair off the face

Try to keep your hair back most of the times so that it does not come in contact with your skin and aggravate it. Hair contains oil which can easily clog your pores and cause acne. For small fringes, use clips to keep the hair off your face.

11. Do not touch your face with anything

Avoid touching and rubbing the face either with your hands or with any other thing. Also try to avoid any contact between your mobile phone and skin. The mobile can have dirt which will in turn stick to your face giving a reason for acne to strike. Use clean towels and wipes for your face. Wash your skin with a good soap to remove sweat.

12. Use applicators to apply cream

Try using cotton swabs, cotton balls, or applicators for applying cream or makeup on your skin. Wash your hands before you put your fingers into the cream. The oil and germs from the hands can make the acne and blemishes worse. Keep dirt and oil away from your skin. Applicators can be very beneficial for skin prone to blemishes and acne.

13. Use good oil-free moisturizer

It is very essential to keep the skin hydrated and for this a good moisturizer is a must. The secret to healthy skin is a good moisturizer. Go for an oil free moisturizer with a ‘non-comedogenic’ label. This keeps your pores open and avoids breakouts.

14. Don’t tamper with your pimples

Avoid squeezing pimples or blemishes as that will further increase your skin problems as it pushes infected material deep into the skin. Popping the pimples will only delay the healing and cause dark spots along with increased inflammation.

15. Use acne medicine

If the breakouts are uncontrollable, consult a medical expert and undergo a proper treatment. Be regular for your acne medicine, it will take at least two months to show some results. Sincerely follow the instructions of the doctor and take medicines on time. Avoid over use and under use of medicine as both can cause troubles.

16. Explore correct acne treatments and remedies

Although there may be varieties of acne treatment and medicines, settle for the one best suitable to your skin type. Consult a doctor or dermatologist to get a suitable solution to your problem.
