An apple a day may help keep the doctor away, for real.

It turns out that apples are one of several fruits and vegetables with a white flesh that may help protect you from stroke. New medical research in the latest issue of Stroke shows every 25 grams of the white-flesh of fruits and vegetables eaten each day led to a nine percent drop in the risk of stroke.

Study volunteers mostly ate apples and pears. Researchers suspect that the dietary fiber and the flavonoids play a role. Apples and pears are high in a flavonoid called, quercetin.
