The Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) will work as standard computerized medical vocabulary in the U.S. It will code the important terms electronically, in the major sections of prescription drug labeling. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), within next decade Americans will share drug information electronically across the country.
FDA is now making the ‘Problem List’ for prescription drug products to use in electronic labeling. The SNOMED system is developing a unique process to code medical terms to make it readable across systems nationwide. In this system, SNOMED will develop one code for different existing names of a single disease across the country. Healthcare professionals will access anyone electronically and share information of health and treatment more simply and proficiently.
