Egypt Has Bird Flu Again for the 2nd Time

Yet another suspected human case of bird flu in Egypt. This is the second reported case of bird flu victim in the country. A 30-year-old woman is thought to have died from the virus. The woman is said to have maintained a domestic bird farm despite a ban on the practice. She had died of a fever at Cairo’s main hospital a day earlier.

The health ministry informed that a man was admitted to hospital on Thursday after suffering symptoms of the disease, and has since recovered. According to the official Mena news agency, the 28-year-old man appeared to have recovered after being treated with the drug Tamiflu.

The potentially deadly H5N1 strain of the virus originated in the Qaliubiya region, north of Cairo in both the cases. To confirm the virus in both cases, further tests are being carried out.
