Donation after cardiocirculatory death approved in Canada

Donation after cardiocirculatory death or DCD will be possible within months in Canada. The doctors will be able to transplant organs from people declared dead due to heart failure

Presently, doctors may remove organs from patients who is declared brain dead but the heart is still beating. It does allow the organs to remain healthy on a ventilator until transplantation.

Cardiocirculatory death is a situation of heart failure but neurologically live on life respirators. Now such patients may donate their organs. It is estimated the number of donors will go up by thirty per cent.

On the other hand, some experts such as Jim Hughes, national president of Campaign Life Coalition made critical remarks on the announcement. He criticized DCD as unreasonable to cardiac arrest victims.
