Detox Diet

Most known type of detox diet is the detox diet based on food. The guideline to the diet is not focused on the restriction of the food intake but foods like processed foods, fried, that contain gluten or sugar, wheat or dairy are restricted.

The Detox Diet is a 7 days diet.

Days before starting the diet
:

And the days that precede the begining of the diet you should eliminate coffee, sugar, wheat, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, fast food, boxed food or canned food.
You should also eliminate drinks that contain caffeine, which if you drink it on a regular basis, will lead to headaches, tiredness and other simptopms. Some advices on how to prevent these simptoms:

  • you should decrease step by step the consumption of caffeine
  • you could replace the coffee intake with decaf coffee (or you could try a mix between regular coffee and the decaffeinated coffee)
  • you can try drinks that have caffeine at a lower level like: green or white tea, or match or oolong tea.

During the period of the detox diet you body will need a lot of water and you should start drinking more of it as water will keep you in a good shape of hyratation and will eliminate toxins.
If you have any medication that the doctor prescripted them to you, you should continue on taking them.

Foods to eat

Fruits
  •  fresh fruits, frozen fruits, dried fruit that are unsweetened (raisins, goji, cranberries).

Vegetables

  • broccoli, broccoli sprouts,garlic, onions, cauliflowerbeets, artichokes, collard greens,
    and swiss chard
  • sea vegetables
  • corn should be avoided because forms acid
  • because there are people sensitive to vegetables like bell peppers, eggplants, potatoes and tomatoes you could avoid them

Grains and Starches

  • wild rice, oats, amaranth, millet, buckwheat, quinoa, rice and especially the brown rice; the whole grains are favorites
  • brown rice pasta, rice
    crackers, bread, pure buckwheat noodles

Beans and Legumes

  • you could split yellow and green peas, try some lentils or adzuki beans

Nuts and Seeds

  • tahini, coconut – especially the young pieces, hemp seeds and nuts, chia, sesame, pumpkin, sunflower seeds, almonds, chews, walnuts, nut and butter

Oils

  • olive oil, flax oil, hemp oil, chia oil, avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil,
  • safflower, sesame and sunflower oil in small quantities
  • cold-pressed, extra-virgin olive oil

Beverages

  • rice milk, hemp milk, almond milk,coconut milk
  • water, tea, juice without sugar made from fruits or vegetables

Sweeteners

  • honey, maple syrup, stevia, brown rice syrup, black strap molasses
  • avoid artificial sweeteners and even artificial syrup, always search natural made products

Condiments

  • mustard, salt, cacao, fresh and dried spices and herbs, lemon, black olives, miso, apple cider, wheat-free tamari

Animal Protein

  • turkey or chicken but only if they are organic, fish wild and cold-water, lamb, buffalo, ostrich

As an advice to this diet you should know that is good to drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Another advice is to chew well the food even if it takes a long time.

Food that you must avoid:
Eggs and dairy products like cottage cheese, yogurt and kefir, butter, sour cream , ice cream or frozen yogurt as well as cheese.
Products that contain wheat like pasta or bread.
Sweeteners like : sugar that is refined, any type of sugar white as well as brown, cron-syrup which contains a high level of fructose, cane juice, any type of sweeteners that are artificial.
Products that contain gluten like barley or wheat, rye, spelt, triticale, kamut, farina, couscous, bran.
Products that are contain soy : tempeh, soy powder, soy sauce or yougurt, soy milk and tofu.
Coffee and beverages that contain caffein like tea or soft drinks should be restricted.
Meat like beef, veal or pork sould be avoided; also sausager or the hot dogs, shellfish or deli meats and cold cuts.
Condiments like ketchup, relish, soy sauce, teryiaki sauce, non-dairy creamers, barbeque or steak sauce, salad dressings moyonnaise are products that must be avoided.
As a general idea, you should know that you have to be very careful in choosing your meal; alcohol, food additives and preservatives , high-fat foods , corn are things that are not healthy if you want to keep the diet.
