Coffee protects from radiation: Research

Coffee protects mice from radiation and it may protect humans too in the same fashion. Scientists at Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) have injected caffeine in mice during an experiment. They found that the mice survived lethal radiations.

The researchers have assumed that coffee may contain some component that protects against radiation. They say further that if it works in animals, it can work in humans too. The radiation produces hydroxyl radicals that react with caffeine. Caffeine stops these radicals to damage cells and protect body functions.
