China going blind?

The fact that 45,000 people lose their eyesight every year in China, is really a horrific news jumping out from the land of technology.

In the words of Professor Wang Lihua, who is Vice Director with the blindness prevention office in East China’s Shandong Province:

By July, China has reported 12 million people handicapped with eye problems, including about 5 million blind people.

Pearl eye, Cornea and glaucoma are some of the major reasons behind the spurt of blindness. In addition, damage to the eye lens due to ultraviolet rays is also a prominent reason. Professor Wang Lihua further said in this context:

People should reduce outdoor activities under the burning sun or wear sunglasses.

This is really a shocking revelation and government of China will have to do something expeditiously to nip this sprouting in the bud.
