Can love be cured? Are fat people jollier? Yes!

broken heart

Given a choice when you are down, you would prefer to get hugged by a fat person than an anorexic. Why? Somehow the age-old myth gives us a feeling that fat people are jollier, warmer and more receptive towards feelings. Heard of another myth that ‘Short-sighted people are more intelligent’? These medical myths are no longer myths today with science giving us convincing reasons to prove that these are facts indeed!

Can love be cured? Feeling that you could never get out of your heart-break? Well, not anymore. There is indeed a cure for love-sickness. Intense romantic love is associated with parts of brain associated with reward system where dopamine, a hormone that is associated with the pleasure system of the brain, providing feelings of enjoyment and reinforcement to motivate a person pro actively to perform certain activities is released. The key is to treat a person with hormones that have anti-dopamine qualities. So, the two hormones, melatonin and arginine-vasotocin associated with romantic love should do the trick.

Are fat people jollier? ‘Fat and Fun’ go together! You must have heard people saying that fat people are jolly and have a good sense of humor. What was considered a myth now may actually be true. Psychologists at Lakehead University in Canada found during their survey that the higher the BMI, the lower the symptoms of depression and blue moods and thin women were most prone to depression.

The reason according to the researchers was that potent estrogens primarily found in fatty tissues and serotonin, a chemical that is associated with moods are high in fatter women and these could be a reason why fatter women are associated with good moods.

Are Short-sighted people more intelligent? Don’t you get the feeling that be-spectacled people are intellectual? Well, turns out to be true. It seems that the growth of both eyes and brain has a common genetic base and the genes responsible for myopia could trigger the brains of short-sighted people making them more intelligent.
