Britons' salt consumption lower than before but still higher than advised

salt consumption 64No doubt, Britons have started consuming lesser amount of salt than before but still this amount is higher than the safer limit of 6g/per day. All these things came to the surface through a test in which about 1,287 adults were studied and it was found that salt intake by the Britons was still 9g/ per day, when compared to the similar tests conducted in 2001 in which average salt intake of Britons was noticed 9.5g/perday.

According to the urinary sodium tests carried out in 2005-06, consumption of salt by men was 10.2g/per day compared to 11g in 2001. On the other end, women’s average intake was just 7.6g/per day, which was 8.1g during 2005-06.

Well, this decline in salt intake by the Britons is a good indication. Still, more work remains to be done to further bring down salt consumption level, which could be done simply by spreading more awareness among people that excess intake of salt may lead to several health problems like obesity, high blood pressure, which indirectly give way to cardiovascular diseases too.
