Braces Don’t Have to Be Boring

Unfortunately, most people aren’t born with perfect teeth. Whether you have an overbite, an underbite, or crooked teeth, chances are you will need braces.

While some people may not mind having braces, others start to panic. To some people, braces are unattractive, and having them can put a damper on their self-esteem. But not any longer.

Braces today are not the same, boring, metal-only braces of yesterday. There are different types of braces you can choose from, so if you have to be a “metal mouth”, consider using one of the following options instead.

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are the traditional braces that you’re probably used to seeing. These are the most common, but just because they’re a classic doesn’t mean they’re not fun. Metal braces require rubber bands and elastic in order to function properly and ensure safety, and while you may have silver-colored metal in your mouth, you can add some fun by choosing bands and elastics in fun, exciting colors. Plus, your dentist will allow you to mix and match your bands and elastics, so you can choose red, white and blue around the Fourth of July, or pick your favorite team’s colors when the season starts.

Clear Braces

Now, you can have braces without the world knowing about it. This is especially beneficial for older children or adults who don’t want to be seen with braces. Clear braces are generally the same as metal braces, but they have a tooth-colored bracket instead of a metal bracket. Plus, clear braces are typically made out of ceramic instead of metal.

Lingual Braces

If you don’t want people to know you have braces, another option is lingual braces. These are the same as metal braces, except the brackets are placed on the inside of your teeth instead of the outside. While these are a great option for subtlety, keep in mind that these may take longer to achieve your goal, and you run the risk of higher plaque buildup.

Invisible Mouth Pieces

Instead of metal or ceramic, you can opt for a clear mouth guard-like brace, such as Invisalign. These mouth guards are customized to your teeth, and every month, you get a new mouth guard that moves your teeth slightly. While these are unnoticeable, they do take a bit longer than traditional braces, as they don’t move your teeth as quickly.

Wild Smiles

If traditional metal braces are in your future, you don’t have to worry about having a boring look.Wild Smiles adds a new pop to braces by creating unique brackets. Instead of the traditional square-shaped brackets that everyone has, you can personalize your brackets into something that shows off your personality. Choose from footballs, stars, hearts, flowers or even super hero themes. This will certainly add some much-needed flair to your braces. Plus, you can still change out the bands and elastic with different colors, giving your mouth a complete makeover.

So if you find out that you need braces, don’t let it get you down. You have plenty of different options to choose from, and you can opt to be subtle or create full-on flair.
