A new brain disease, atypical scrapie, may spread in animals in Britain. Britain’s food watchdog has confirmed the possible risk of it’s spread in humans too. In the precautionary measures, the agency has advised the mutton eaters to avoid such items for the time being. However, this new disease is very much similar to the classic scrapie. It was known in sheep for hundred years but never had a threat to human beings.
The shop-owners are given new guidelines and the consumers are advised not to stop eating muttons completely. The Health agency has called on European Commission for the vital need of the process of new labeling rules.
The Prince of Wales has started earlier a movement for mutton eating in Britain. Now, the growing cases of scrapie started haunting people. To deal with the problem of eating mutton, Peter Morris, chief executive of the National Sheep Association, says,
the Prince of Wales should come in light with the message that people should keep potential risks in proportion and keep eating mutton.
