A study finds that aspirin therapy may prevent the ototoxicity. Hearing loss associated with aminoglycoside antibiotics might be prevented by aspirin. Aminoglycosides are used in developing as well as developed countries.
Earlier research suggested that aminoglycosides produce oxygen-free elements that harm sensory cells in the ear. But it showed the process countered the antioxidant effect of salicylate in the form of aspirin at the same time.
Future research will evaluate whether lower doses might still be effective in humans while reducing gastric side effects as well. Rheumatoid arthritis patients take higher doses of aspirin usually.
