Americans' 'food insecurity' may rise in 2007: Food advocacy groups

the us government said the number of americans who

It was in 2006, the United States was struck hard by hunger! An overall of 35.52 million people — including 12.63 million children — went hungry that year. But, it was eventually checked at this point, but that was not enough — more needs to be done.

Concerned with the unattained initiatives required, food advocacy groups think the U.S. government has more to do than just check it there. It has increased by 2.5 million from 2005. Do you know, a total of 12.65 million households were “food insecure’ as you can call? This calculates to an increase of 10.9 percent from 12.59 million just a year ago.

Although the USDA’s Economic Research Service has claimed the ‘food insecurity’ as more stable from this year to last year, the food advocacy groups strongly feels the United States was not doing enough to combat hunger. This may eventually lead to worse conditions.

Jim Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center said,

As costs for food, energy, and housing continue to rise and wages stagnate or decline, households are finding themselves increasingly strapped. This may mean even worse numbers in 2007.

True, this is a real problem – the fall in currency valuation, increase in taxes and hence price of household necessities, is forcing Americans to struggle to support household – even procuring enough food throughout the year!
