Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 figure for bean intake doesn’t match with the amount of bean consumed by an average American every year. Beans are recommended for those on a low cal diet. Being rich in protein, fiber, calcium and folic acid, they naturally cut down that extra fat from the diet.
While the recommended amount is three cups of beans a week, Americans eat only seven pounds per year. They all give excuses of not knowing what to do with their beans. Maybe Fran Carlson, a spokeswoman with the American Dry Bean Board, can help them with a couple of bean recipes.
