A few extra pounds is good for health

Being underweight before pregnancy raises the risk into labour prematurely. It affects woman’s fertility by producing less oestrogen. This reduces the chances of conception.

More women die due to osteoporosis than die from cervical, uterine and breast cancer combined. The heavier bodies are less likely to suffer from osteoporosis. Because fat cells retain oestrogen, the hormone that militates against calcium and bone loss.

If weight involves a few excess pounds, it will avoid the multitudinous injuries incurred by general dieting. There is also evidence that these conditions can also develop as a result of the strain caused to the body by the repeated piling on and starving off of weight.
