In times when everybody is so obsessed with looks, we all want to look our best. Moreover it is not always about impressing others it is also about our own feel good factor and confidence level. Skin is the most exposed organ of a human body. It is the first thing that gets noticed and everyone admires fresh, young looking and glowing skin. Women these days go for myriad beauty treatments to enhance the state of their skin, grooming and overall appearance.

Though home remedies are safest bet but people do not mind experimenting these days. After all, there are so many tempting and promising treatments that use advanced technology are available today, that one can hardly resist. It may be something as simple as hydration and moisturizing routine or some other relatively complicated and expensive treatments like botox, collagen injections, facelifts etc.

Following 3 skin treatments are extensively used. They are discussed in detail below so that you can know which one appeals the most to you:

1. Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is an intense form of exfoliation of skin. Exfoliation involves mild scrubbing that clears the skin from dirt particles, black heads, oil and dead skin cells. However dermabrasion is recommended for people with severely uneven and damaged skin. It involves deeper scraping of the skin which is usually done by a certified doctor and the technique is helpful to visibly reduce fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, freckles, sun damage, scars etc.

American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) confirms that dermabrasion is one of the finest techniques available today that scrapes away the outermost layer of the skin. Depending on the case in hand, the surgeon decides how deep scraping needs to be done. A rough wire brush or an automated burr that has diamond particles for scrubbing is used. Additionally, laser technique can also be used.

There are no guarantees in life and no technique is foolproof. So, before you jump on the bandwagon, you must be well aware of the risks involved. Blacks, Asians or other dark-complexioned people and those who have severe skin allergies are most vulnerable. Also, the procedure can be really painful, so much so that is most cases persons undergoing the treatment need to be given anesthesia. Therefore, one must be utmost careful and go for it only under the supervision of a certified doctor. Healing may take several months in some cases.

2. Chemical peels

Chemical peels involves applying a chemical onto the skin, letting it stay for a few minutes and simply rinsing and peeling the dead skin away. It is less intense and painful than dermabrasion and usually takes just a few minutes. However, it should also be done only under the supervision of a certified doctor as chemicals are harmful. The most common chemicals for professional facial peels are Phenol, trichloroacetic acid and alpha-hydroxy acids. Peels require no anesthesia and sometimes require a second complimentary treatment to get an even complexion.

Certain simple home remedies like using lemons and tomatoes from time to time also give a natural chemical peel effect because of the acids present.

3. Facial Masks

This is one safe, tried and tested skin treatment that almost everyone does on a regular basis. A facial mask is a topical application of pastes like mud, clay, fuller earth, certain vegetables and fruits pulp etc. The mask helps in drawing dirt, oil and other impurities from the skin and pores and also tightens and nourishes the skin.

The mask is applied onto the skin and left for drying. It is then rinsed off using lukewarm water to see the desired effect almost instantly.

There are a variety of masks available in the market these days. Better is to choose organic variety. They can even be made at home using some really basic ingredients that are readily available in the kitchen like gram floor and yoghurt paste, grounded almond and milk paste, sandalwood powder or clay mixed with rosewater, lemon and honey etc.
