With Facebook and Twitter, social networking has received a new, much-needed impetus. The social media, which started with making friends have now grown into a much larger platform – like you can get updates about all the things happening about around you, share pictures, play games and express your views as well. These social networking sites are getting better and more advanced with each passing day. Pinterest has also done the same thing, but with a palpable difference. Pinterest, which started as a scrapbooking social network, has now portrayed itself as the world’s much-hyped bulletin board.

A cool scrapbooking site, Pinterest quickly got attention from social media lovers and now it’s transforming itself with a redesigned look. For that, it rolled out a beta test to test the new features like the larger pictures and a new, designer way to navigate pages.

Pinterest used the beta tests to check the reaction on larger pictures. The social media platform is testing the audience and their reaction on the new services added. No doubt, beta testers are focus groups, but the feedback is the most important thing to create an interesting social networking site. They must know that the feedbacks they are getting are actually from a broad group. Conducting survey means you only get feedbacks from those who want to respond, but more useful feedbacks often come from outside. So, Pinterest made sure to widen its circle and learned what they spoke under their breath.

Larger pictures are always catchy and intend to be more effective. Not only large image size, the site now also comes with more information. On one pin, you can observe more pins of the same board and other boards related to the same board. Adding links or adding pins helps to grow the network and let you discover more and more, quoted Vy Phan, software engineer at Pinterest.

Bigger is better, but a number of concept are still relatively less explored, like how the images would look on computer, how the sizes would differ on tablets or smart phones. So, Pinterest tried to understand the response on a platform and learned from the experiences of past.

The beta test is a completely consumer-based. Most of the activities on Pinterest are ad based as it offers business pages, which attracts many brands and advertisers. Nevertheless, the major focus remains on building audience and developing user experience. This is definitely sure that all the new features will make a mark on advertisers and those who do not want to see their products on the large screen.
