Philips E-line Series LCD monitor: HD your experience

Grow with Dr Prem

The Philips E-Line enters the monitor scene with no great claims. They are neither the slimmest nor the cheapest. Also, the everyday features don’t make these monitors an instant favorite. However, they live up to your expectations when it comes to delivering impressive picture quality and larger than life high definition videos. These monitors are unlike the aggressively styled Samsung monitors and have a more sober and conservative appeal to them. The Philips E-Line series LCD monitors are available in 18.8, 21.5, 23, 23.6, and 27 inch variants which provides you with sufficient options to choose from.

Features:

The front lip has five touch sensitive buttons for navigating through the monitor’s on screen menu and the power toggle. Further evidence of Philip’s function over style approach is that the icons for each, two a piece apart from the power button, are displayed clearly on the front.
The major source of disappointment in the design is the lack of height adjustment which may make the display unsuitable for some home applications.

The 1080p display that packs 1920×1080 pixels is the minimum resolution you’d want to use at this level of screen real estate. Philips’s claim that the SmartContrast engine can boost the monitor’s contrast ratio up to 500,000:1, from the bog standard 1,000:1 which is respectable to say the most. The SmartContrast ratio, also, makes the images more sharp and colors more vibrant, in addition to supporting full HD and offering HDMI connectivity.

The Philips E-Line LCDs use a matte finish twisted nematic panel. This kind of panel is characteristic of almost all cheap LCD monitors. It tends to offer a fast response time but fairly poor performance in other aspects. All said and done about the panel, it gives superb horizontal viewing angles with minimal contrast and color shift even when viewed at extreme angles. Vertical viewing angles aren’t as impressive with noticeable contrast shift when the screen is viewed from below. The CCFL backlight gives the monitor dazzling brightness. The Philips E-Line LCDs offer very good energy consumption levels making them highly eco-friendly monitors to use.

You can set the color temperature either 6500k or 9300k, or. set your own color preference by controlling the level of red, green and blue. A standard sRGB mode is also included. A response time of 5 ms doesn’t make the E-Line’s TN panel the fastest in town. Therefore, if you’re expecting high FPS figures, you’ll be better off investing in other high performance monitors.

High Points:

1. A super bright TN panel with unusually good viewing angles make the E-line one of the better LCD monitors available.

2. The PowerSensor Technology reduces energy consumption by up to 80 percent by decreasing the screen brightness when the user is away from their desk.

3. Philips’ function over style approach makes the E-Line LCD monitors very easy to use for everyday functions.

Price:

The Philips E-Line 27 inch LCD monitor that offers full HD and HDMI support is available at a real estate price of £499.
