Grow with Dr Prem

An MP3 docking station for iPods with a slight twist. In this device although an existing tech pack has been utilized, the seem is on the lines of the Leica branded cameras. This German brand is known for its high quality products. So the design, aesthetics and appearance are just like the Leica brand’s trademark portrayals. This product is a brainchild of Philly Portellos, an industrial designer based in Australia.

The design blueprint

The specifications of the tech pack for the dock were provided beforehand to the artist. So the basics for the gizmo had been predefined. Thus the system needed to unify functionality with design sensibilities of the Leica label. Blending these two together into a device akin to the format of the tech pack provided was not a cakewalk. Several issues had to be addressed to overcome the hitches. The designer came up with several schemes for ease of use. Three basic buttons were slotted; the LED light buttons go on and off. The volume can be monitored with a plus and minus sign buttons for increasing as well as decreasing the pitch. A power button with its standard logo was also embedded.

The fine-looking exterior

The final product had an elongated black colored body and on top a slot for docking the remote was fitted. At one end of the long tube, a red dot bearing the logo was imprinted. The design is simple and pleasing to the eyes with no intricate additions, very much like the Leica brand pattern.

Also, the leather bound remote is just like the Leica brand of products. The base of the device is made up of hardwood. High quality leather has been wrapped around this wooden base. The leather used though soft is very thick and helps users get a firm grip. Because of the leather encasing this component is known as the black section.

Tech specifications

The remote rests in the slot on top of the gadget and has been fitted with magnified glass so that it can be used in all directions. The remote receiver has an angle to reach out for the signal. There is a full cross section and the control pad has a silicone insert. The AC power input and AUX are both separated with brushed aluminum sheets. The product has a streamlined design so that it does not get heavy – the metal on top unites really well with the leather base. The use of wood is also an excellent idea as it is a great material for speakers.

Green quotient

The design is also eco friendly. Most materials used will last considerably long and are quite dense. Thus, you will not be throwing the device out as trash for a prolonged period. The base around which leather has been wrapped is made of milled aluminum. This prevents the leather from being chaffed and slows its wearing down.
