Face off: Nokia Lumia 700 vs. Nokia Lumia 800

Lumia is a very hot name in the market right now. Nokia was criticized a lot for their Symbian based smartphones, but Nokia made a smart move and switched to Windows. Lumia 700 still works on Symbian 3, unlike Lumia 800. Lumia has received a positive response from the market as well as from the reviewers. Both of these phones are high performance smartphones and we will be comparing them to find a winner.

The Lumia War

1. Screen size

Both the devices flash a great screen but there are still subtle differences. Nokia Lumia 800 has a 3.7 inch screen while Nokia Lumia 700 has a 3.2 inch screen. Lumia 800 supports 480×800 pixels of resolution on the other hand Lumia 700 is not far behind and has 360 x 640 pixels resolution. The pixel density in case Lumia 800 is 252 pixels per inches whereas Lumia 700 has a pixel density of 229 pixels per inches.

2. Weight

Smartphones were known to be a little heavier than general purpose cellphones but now they have started to shed some weight. Nokia Lumia 800 weighs142 grams while Nokia Lumia 700 weighs only 96 grams. We can clearly see the difference.

3. Thickness

Both the devices are really slim considering their performance. Nokia Lumia 700 is 9.7 mm thin whereas Lumia 800 is 12 mm. The difference is small but here every millimeter counts.

4. Camera

Nokia Lumia 800 has an 8 megapixel camera which can click pictures with 3264×2448 pixels resolution. The lens is made by Lens manufacturing pioneers Carl Zeiss, and it has autofocus and dual LED flash. Lumia 700 has a 5 megapixel camera with fixed focus and LED flash. It captures images in 2592х1944 pixels resolution. So we can see a huge difference here.

5. Battery

Nokia Lumia 800 runs on a Standard Li-Ion 1450 mAh (BV-5JW) battery while Nokia Lumia 700 has a 1080 mAh Li-Ion battery. Lumia 800 has a bigger battery but has higher power consumption too as a result it offers lesser standby as compared to Lumia 700 (Lumia 800: 335h and Lumia 700: 403h ). Although Lumia 800 still offers more talktime against Lumia 700 ( Lumia 800: 9.5h and Lumia 700: 7.17h).

6. Operating System

As stated earlier, Nokia smartphones with Symbian OS received a lot of negative feedback and for the same reason they switched to Windows. But for whatever reason, Lumia 700 still runs Symbian Belle OS while Lumia 800 has Windows Phone 7.5 mango which has a better performance as compared to Symbian.

7. Data Connectivity

Both Lumia 800 and Lumia 700 have the same data speed on HSDPA (14.4 mbps) and HSUPA (5.76 mbps). So that goes for a tie.

8. Processing speed

Nokia Lumia 800 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon, 1400 MHz processor under the hood. On the other hand, Lumia 700 has an Arm11 1000 Mhz processor. So here we have a big difference in processing power.

9. Memory

Lumia 800 has massive 16 GB internal memory but sadly it does not have any memory expansion slots. If we talk about Lumia 700 it has a 2 GB internal memory and an expansion slot which can occupy microSD card of 32 GB capacity. As a result Lumia 700 has more storage space (up to 34 GB )Both the devices have the same 512 MB RAM.

10. Price

Lumia 800 has higher clock speed and hence performs faster. So the pricing is in accordance with that. Nokia Lumia 800 is priced around Rs. 23099 (approx) while Nokia Lumia 700 is expected to cost around Rs 15499 (approx).

The verdict:

Both of these phones have top notch features that make them ideal smartphones. But if we go here by the numbers, Nokia Lumia 800 has a bigger screen, better battery performance, higher clock speed (processing power 1400 MHz) , better camera (8 megapixel, Carl Zeiss) and finally a better operating system (Windows 7.5 Mango). Considering all these facts, we can say that Nokia Lumia 800 is a better choice. Although some might also find Lumia 700 better because it is just a matter of personal preferences. Lumia 800 costs more but brings more power packed features too.
