While the surprise announcement of RIM’s press conference last week did not reveal too much, it was still expected that Blackberry 9800 would be unveiled. And it turns out that the next BlackBerry smartphone is a unique blend of its two flagship models, BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Bold. Dubbed BlackBerry Torch, the new device offers both a QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen experience on a 3.2-inch 360 x 480 capacitive touchscreen display. Featuring a slide-out keyboard, and built-in links to social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, the Torch 9800 is hoped to challenge Apple’s iPhone. Weighing around 161 gram, the Torch has a 4GB built-in memory plus a microSD/SDHD card slot that supports up to 32GB cards. The Blackberry Torch will be available from 12 August in the US, exclusively on the AT&T network.
