Areas where the Nexus One weighs heavier on the iPhone

When it was first announced that Google will be entering the cell phone market, we all assumed it was going to be another phone. However, when D-Day finally arrived, it revealed to be much more. Enter Nexus One- an open-source mobile OS, and its not being called a smartphone, in fact its being labeled as “superphone” It is hyped as “where the web meets the phone”. There are plenty of things about Nexus One which are super, like- its stunning 3.7 inch screen, a snapdragon 1GHz and 512 MB of RAM on an Android 2.1 OS. Added with excellent voice control features and one of a kind touch sensitivity, one can wonder is this really the first ever super phone?

Areas where the Nexus One weighs heavier on the iPhone

Nexus One has 1GHz Snapdragon processor, meaning, users will be able to use multiple applications without losing any speed. This is far more powerful than 600MHz of Cortex A8 processor on the iPhone 3GS. It also has 512 MB RAM to boast against 256 MB RAM of the iPhone.

The Nexus One has 3.7” display, 480×800 (resolution) when compared to iPhone’s 3.5” display, 480×320. The difference might be a meager 2″ which is unnoticeable. But the real difference is the resolution which is much sharper in Nexus One compared to iPhone which has remained unchanged since its launch in 2007. Also, Nexus One has a 3.7″ OLED screen against 3.5″ LCD display of the iPhone.

While the Nexus One has a 5MP camera, auto-focus and flash, iPhone comes equipped with a 3MP camera, auto-focus, and no flash. Another clear winner for the Nexus, more megapixels and flash can ensure only one thing crystal clear picture.

Now comes the battery part. Nexus One has 1400 mAh to brag against iPhone’s 1219 mAh, which means more battery life; a thing which every user craves for. Also Nexus One has only two simple steps for battery replacement against 16 annoying and painstakingly long steps for battery replacement in the iPhone.

Gmail is also ridiculously easy on the Nexus One which comes as an added bonus. In layman’s terms, one can access Gmail and Facebook on the Nexus. Nexus One also has excellent maps to boast of which offer special features, like Latitude (which even runs on background) and Navigation.

Thus, it’s a clear win for Google on the specs. Google and HTC have a clear winner with the Nexus One, the “be all that you can” smartphone. Though the Moto Druid claims to offer a similar experience, but it offers a relatively weaker camera experience.

Though the Nexus One is claimed to be a “super phone”, but it’s not the phone that destroys all others. It’s simply got better Google Android experience. It also does have a newer version of the OS, but soon the other androids will catch up to it.

But, Google will soon launch newer updates of the version, which means by the time other phones catch up with OS 2.1, the Nexus will have something newer, better and fresher to offer. Named after the cyborg from Ridley Scott’s cult sci-fi film Blade Runner, Nexus One also has a two-dimensional bar code on the back which identifies each handset.

All in all, the Nexus One is the phone to beat and it will require something special to dethrone the Nexus.
