When it comes to enjoy listening music on a music player, the iPod is the product that people prefer to use. IPod touch has proven to be one of the most successful models in Apple’s iPod category. Apple believes in upgrading its product to give better user experience to its customers. Apple announced the launch of new and improved version of the iPod touch. The new iPod will be equipped with many of the new popular features of the new iPhone 4, including A4 processor, built in camera and gyroscope, high resolution retina display and better touch interface.

If you have seen an iPod on TV or in an Apple store, or even used your friend’s, you might notice that new iPod touch looks and feels just like the earlier versions of the iPod family. But the new version of iPod touch comes with exclusive noteworthy features which are in the interest of time. This article focuses on the high and low points on the new features in iPod touch.

1. Built in Camera

iPod users have been clamoring for Apple to enumerate a built in camera in the iPod touch. Now Apple added not just one but two cameras to the iPod. On the front display, users will find a VGA camera, capable to capture stills and video recording. The primary function of the VGA camera is to enable video conferencing via Wi-Fi with Apple’s FaceTime.
640×480 is the maximum resolution of the front facing VGA camera with a maximum frame rate of 30 frames per second (fps). However, the rear camera is adept with 1280×720 (720p) resolution HD videos and 960×720 photos.
Front facing camera in an iPod is comparable to iPhone 4 in terms of its resolution and performance. However, the rear camera in iPhone 4 is capable to capture 2592×1936 resolution images in comparison to 960×720 resolution images. IPod’s rear camera also lacks in built in flash limiting its use in dark areas.

2. A high resolution retina display iPod touch comes equipped with a high resolution retina display which possesses a 960×640 LCD display and 326 pixels per inch pixel density. As a result, iPod touch features detailed menus, high resolution display of video games, graphics, photos and video.
Touch retina display of iPod performs exactly like iPhone 4. It got unimaginable bright and vibrant range of color. It lacks in one key area of viewing angle, the iPhone got ‘in plane switching’ (IPS) technology, which facilitate it with a viewing angle of 180 degrees. Due to unavailability IPS, viewing angle of the iPod is much narrower thus display gives varying degrees of bluish tint when not viewed head on.
Apple can’t afford to give all iPhone 4 features because costs had to cut to maintain the previous price tag.

3. Performance and Design
With A4 processor and built in gyroscope, Apple has given the iPod touch a performance boost. A4 processor makes iPod perform faster than its predecessors. iPod touch drives iOS 4.1 which enables it to perform multitasking in a better way, but the speed improvements will be small due to heavy running features like retina display.
In terms of design, iPod trims down the thickness to just 7.2 millimeters. Stainless steel backing, prone to smudges and scuffs and hard to grip is still maintained in the updated model as well. Obviously, owner of $229 iPod needs a protective cast because without the one iPod is pretty sensitive to damage.

4. Price range
Apple maintained the storage capacity structure and core pricing with its new iPod. 8GB is available for $229, 32GB for $299 and 64GB for $399. With the new HD video recording facility, 8GB of storage space is certain to fill faster. Heavy iPod users will find 8GB insufficient, so they will definitely opt for 32GB.

Final word

The utility of an iPod depends on the requirement of the user. But the added new features make this new iPod smart enough to cater to the needs of the users. Paying $299 for 32GB iPod is value for money. In simple words, iPod is an outstanding media player to buy till date.
