Steer your children away from TV

TV watching has increased rapidly among kids, as it is their favorite time pass. Most of the kids stick themselves in front of their TV the moment they get some free time and before you even know, it turns into a habit. Parents want their kids to be creative in life and try hard to engage them in outdoor games but all efforts are useless. Here are a few suggestions to keep your kids away from TV:

Set limit and talk to your kids

Parents must set some time limits for their younger kids and be strict with the rules. Tell them that it is not important to watch TV on daily basis. They could swap the option with other fun games. You can make some exceptions on weekends or introduce them to other fun games. Talking to younger kids may not be beneficial but for those parents who have older kids it is a sure success.

You must have a discussion with your kids and make them aware of the harmful effects if TV watching. Tell them how TV watching can negatively affect their health and may hamper their study habits as well.

Make some changes at your home

Parents must remove TV from their kids’ room so that they can easily associate it with sleeping. Put your television out of there reach and is possible keep it out of their sight. You can make use of the hidden TV cabinets. Arrange things in such a manner so that they come and ask you to turn it on. It helps you keep a track of time.

Take the remote control in your control to keep them from watching whatever they like. You sure cannot trust them especially when you are away making dinner in the kitchen. Watch TV with your kids. This way you not only keep an eye on them but also get an opportunity to guide them.

Set a good example

Kids learn and imitate the behavior patterns of their parents. When they watch their parents busy with their favorite shows, they learn to take their pick. They may choose their favorite cartoon series and watch them regularly. On the other hand, when you chose to pay attention to other things instead of watching TV, they learn to do the same. Remember kids watch, observe and learn from their parents.

Introduce fun games

Kids always find it easier to break their habits when they get an alternative. Parents can buy a fancy bicycle for their older kids or get them enrolled to learn dance or music. You can buy color boxes, storybooks or skate and drawing material for your younger kids to divert their attention. Make sure you play with your kids and be there with them so that they feel involved.

Never allow them to watch TV while eating

Parents usually allow their kids to watch TV when they are having their food or doing their homework. Kids pay a little more attention to TV and take other thing for granted. This habit may be harmful for your kids’ heath too. Let them focus them on one thing at one time as it helps them bring out their best. Parents must understand that they may have hard time trying to change the habit of their kids once they grow up.

Those kids who watch a lot of TV often become victims of obesity, poor eyesight and low mental growth. Parents must try to break their kids’ bad habit of TV watching by setting good examples and introducing them to outdoor games as it is very important for kids to exercise their brains to sharpen their skills.
