Solar-powered RoboCop to control traffic in Doha

Manual method to guide vehicles is soon going to be history as the solar-powered robot developed by Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Qatar Science Club (QSC) readies itself to normalize the traffic snags of the Doha region. All through the infrastructure development work on the city’s streets, you would see this robot warning cars to stop and to apply brakes when vehicles near a sharp bend.

Qatar’s desert climate has its share in the light fiber-construction of the robot. The mobile robot is outfitted with solar cells and a battery to make it work 24 hours without human assistance. It has undergone testing at the Scientific Club. Rashid Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary General of the club, is hopeful of making more robots to substitute manual workers in the Doha region.
