<![CDATA[These filmmakers do not need to put expensive attire to grab attention when they attend an Awards ceremony since their work has brought them into limelight. Though, gradually but theses film directors have proven themselves as the best in business.

Nora Ephron

Three times nominated for Academy Award for best writing, Nora Ephron was the queen of romantic comedy. Her stories have the flavor of love that is full of ecstasy. Bafta Award winner for Best Original Screenplay, Nora was an American Journalist, screenwriter, director and producer. Though the list of her work is quite long, films like “Silkwood”, “When Harry met Sally” and “Sleepless in Seattle” are the movies that very much deserve the appreciation they get. Nora passed away in June 2012 with pneumonia, and with her Hollywood lost one of the Veteran directors.

Mira Nair

 

Harvard educated Mira Nair has set new milestones for female directors in Hollywood. This New York based Indian film director has been nominated for Academy awards, Golden awards and Bafta awards as well. Her debut feature film “Salaam Bombay” was screened at the Cannes Film festival and won the Golden Camera award. Not only this, the film got nominated for the Academy Award for Best foreign language film.

Jane Campion

Academy awards winner for best original screenplay Elizabeth Zane Campion is a director and producer based in Australia. She is the second of four female directors who to have been nominated in the best director’s category for Academy Awards.

Sofia Carmina Coppola is an actor, screenwriter, director and producer. This Academy award winner for best original screenplay is the third female director out of four nominated for Academy award for best director.

Penny Marshall

Penny was nominated three times for a Golden Globe award for her performances as an actress. Her skills are not limited to acting only; she is television/film producer and television/film director as well. She produces cinema that appeals to all generations. Her movie “Awakenings” (1990) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. She has earned the title of first woman director whose film has crossed a gross income of $100 million at U.S box office.

Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn is the first woman director who has won Academy Award for Best Director for her film “The Hurt Locker.” Be it featuring action sequences or romantic scenes, it all comes natural to her. She has won the best director award at the Oscars and she is the first woman in history to win this award.

Patty Jenkins

 

Patricia Lea “Patty” Jenkins is an American writer and director who known for excellence in her work. She has won the DGA award for best directorial achievement for a dramatic series for the pilot of The Killing. Monster is one of the most famous films she has directed and it got her critical acclamation too.

Catherine Hardwicke

Catherine Hardwicke is the first female director whose film has made a highest ever opening.  Her film “Twilight” earned $69.6 million in its opening weekend. With that series, she placed herself in the list of most successful female directors of Hollywood.
