Recycled marble tile remnants transform into mosaic mural in El Paso

Buena Vista artist Roberto Salas and the students of the Land Arts of the American West, an interdisciplinary field program based at the University of New Mexico, have transformed the concrete sidewalls of the West Side neighborhood in El Paso into a 200-foot-long and 6-foot-long rising sun mural. They made use of recycled marble tile remnants to fashion these wall paintings. It took Bill Gilbert, a UNM art professor and program founder as well, and his students more than a week to erect these murals below Buena Vista Grocery. Here’s how he expresses his satisfaction over the fabulous work done by his students:

We try and show students a whole bunch of ways to be an artist. It’s amazing what can get done when you’ve got 15 people working together.

Now, with the addition of another facet i.e. recycling, it becomes a more interesting and an eco-sensitive project. Well, you need to wait for its official inauguration; no dates as of now.
