Rain forest-felling forcing vampire bats out to attack cattle, ranchers worried

the vampire bats in costa rica

The humble cattle in the Latin American rain forest are falling prey to human’s merciless chopping of the rainforest to make way to their farmland and livestock pastures.

No, its not humans killing them, but in a bid to make their livestock’s way into the forests by clearing the rain forests, they are disturbing and terrifying the forests’ vampire bats and depriving them of their wild forest mammal-victims – and the result?! — They are turning their fangs on the cattle entering the forest.

Tracking the diet of the vampire bats in Costa Rica led to the fearful and worrisome discovery. Since the blood-seeking bats’ wild forest victims are disappearing along with the rain forests, in a bid to give way to livestock pasture, they are left with no other option then sinking their fangs into these meatier cattle.

A total future disruption in the forests’ ecosystem can be clearly seen. With the tapirs and piglike peccaries being the vampire bats’ traditional preys, their alarming disappearance is leaving them with no choice then to attach the poor cattle.

Though the Costa Rican cattle ranchers are concerned over the increasing vampire attacks in the region, its high time they need to be aware of both their and the cattle’s future if they go on clearing the rain forests mercilessly.
