Students of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering Departments from De La Salle University, Manila have engineered their second (Sinag was the first one) solar-powered car dubbed Sikat. Sikat stands for “sunrise” in Filipino. On Wednesday, it hit the road of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Taking almost half a year to deliver this amazing car, the design team got tremendous support from the Sunpower Corp, Ford Philippines, Pilipinas Shell and Motolite.

Sikat’s surface is flanked with solar panels that ably generate a peak power of 3.3 watts. The solar car is just 1.1 meters tall and is much lighter than its predecessor. Since the design team, comprising of 33 students and teachers, wished to make it more user-friendly than Sinag, it is supplied with an adjusted steering column. Moreover, it’s a faster version, as less air resistance lends it more speed.
