The government of Penang can be seen taking valuable steps to encourage tourism in the state. Penang hopes to see the first-of-its-kind eco-friendly world-class theme park very soon. A Penang-based company has submitted a proposal to the state government to set up an environmentally friendly theme park in Teluk Bahang. The company that was engaged in the design and construction of the Universal Studio Theme Park in Singapore claims it will take about four years to complete the project if given a chance.

The eco-friendly park called the Ecofun Theme Park Resort will require an estimated cost of about RM100mil to complete. The project will go through an open tender, which is hoped to begin on October 1 and end on December 1. After the project is given consent, 12.14ha of land belonging to the Penang Water Corporation located downstream of the Teluk Bahang dam would be leased out for construction. The company has already successfully set up theme parks like the Wahoo Waterpark in Bahrain, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, and Desa Idaman and Hotspring Resort in Malaysia.

The company asserted that the park would be at a mere 3km distance from the Batu Ferringhi tourist belt and also plans to have treetop cabins, campsites and caravan style accommodation, restaurants and bar. In addition to a water park inside the forest with wave pools, slides, a river and play area, the park will incorporate a farm that will be a home to domesticated animals such as chickens, cats and ducks. The theme park will boost tourism with its value added services.
