Since the Leesburg Electric Department came up with the energy saving Smart Meter, residents like Vinnie Avery won’t have to spill fortunes to stop their energy meters’ unpleasant tickle. Their newest inclusion, i.e. the Smart Meter program, helps millions like him save huge bucks on electricity bills. The highly effective meters not only monitor the electricity usage but also suggest incentive programs to manage the usage.
Smart meters are smart actually
Well, it’s not the maiden testing, as in early 2008, 140 of them were installed, and they offered accurate usage readings. After doing so, the machines feed the central computer with the data. Now, the user can see his peak usage and accordingly, customize his energy requirements. They can shut down their electrical appliances with high usage while they are not home.
Awaiting federal aid
As of now, the city administration is hopeful of receiving a federal grant of $20 million for the program. If it gets the stimulus package, the city will extend this program to its 23,000 customers.
