Nexans Norway AS, the global cable leader has been awarded a 100 Million Euros contract to supply the 220km of 150kV XLP subsea export cable to connect the world’s largest, and the first 1GW London Array wind farm to the UK grid. Nexans has been asked to deliver two of the cables in 2011 and the remaining two in 2012, each about 54 kilometers long.

Sited in the Thames Estuary, the 233-km2 project with up to 341 turbines will generate up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity to supply enough power for around 750,000 homes or a quarter of Greater London homes. Moreover, it will displace the emission of 1.9m tons of CO2 every year.
