New eco-design to make PSA Peugeot Citroën vehicles greener than ever

Automakers never ever realize how their inefficient production methods worry the avid environmentalists. Seeking to make amends, PSA Peugeot Citroen hopes to do it big this time in committing to increase its use of green materials to 20% by 2011. Instead of using non-biodegradable stuff like heavy metals, fluids and plastics for auto fabrication, it will stick with raw materials from renewable sources.

Peugeot has already started working on it and is trying to entice labs, chemical firms and parts suppliers to join hands. The initiative indicates more use of linen, hemp, non-metallic recycled materials like plastic and biomaterials that will make the auto parts lighter than before. It will also reduce the overall carbon footprints of the vehicles. Furthermore, the company aims at making 85 percent of all of its vehicles receptive to an eco-friendly clearance when they lose their capability to remain in a working condition.
