The Solar Winds Coffee House is a depiction of Michael Jantzen’s futuristic and eco-conscious vision. The design will be completely powered by wind and sun, featuring a huge vertical axis wind turbine mounted on the top, along with an array of photovoltaic cells. Both the wind turbine and the photovoltaic cells will be responsible for meeting with the electricity requirement, while a geo-thermal heat pump is employed for warming and cooling of the structure.
The Solar Winds Coffee House built using sustainable materials will also have an option for rainwater gathering and storage for use in and around the facility. All the gray water produced will be recycled. Toilets in this coffee house are expected to be either a composing type or water saving type, which will then use the captured gray water.
The cylindrical portion of the Solar Winds Coffee House will contains a central counter and serving area, with tables and seating located around the perimeter. Additional tables and seating will be located on two large outdoor deck areas. A large skylight and natural ventilation system will be located above the central service area to reduce the energy load on the solar panels and the wind turbine.
