Making a choice between kangaroo flatulence and cattle flatulence

choice between kangaroo flatulence and cattle flatulence

Most Australians have tasted Kangaroo meat, the idea now is to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by eating kangaroo meat, replacing them for cattle and sheep. The solution is to decrease dependence on livestock populations and the current meat industry, which contributes to about 67% of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. On the other hand, it has recently been discovered, that kangaroo flatulence contains little methane when compared to cattle.

Kangaroos are only found in Australia. These species are currently under no immediate threat. Rather they represent the healthy ecosystem of the nation where they are flourishing. Introducing the idea of kangaroo meat for consumption would be taking the first direct step towards endangering them. There are relatively very few representative species in the world that aren’t threatened or endangered. Instead of coming up with desperate solutions to curb emissions, no matter how profitable, it would be wise to bring out long term solutions, that aren’t based on flatulence.

When the concept of decreasing meat consumption worldwide was introduced, it was not well received, though it was based on solid grounds of decreasing carbon footprints and controlling methane emissions. Our lifestyle does not permit any of us to completely cut down on our emissions, but the idea is to redistribute it in such a way that it does not have a lasting effect on the environment, and to look for alternative energy dependence at the same time. Sacrificing any species would be unethical, and states in fact that we would do everything in our power to protect ourselves, at any cost.
