Google goes green

Google claims it will rescue the United States before 2030, from using coal and oil for power, and cut oil use for cars. The estimated cost of this new energy plan is lesser than the amount needed to bail United States out of their recent financial crisis, says Google.

Google.org is being very modest, saying that this contribution is very little of the actual need. Google will now on be backing green technology related to wind power, solar energy, geothermal energy, etc, anything that takes pressure off the nation’s fossil fuel resources. As a company, they are cutting down on their servers and buildings and creating standards of efficiency for computers to decrease consumption. Keeping the plan simple, just like it always has, Google envisages people to see how much energy they use and what it costs them, reflecting it in smart meters.

If any agenda has the backing of a strong brand image including the financial assistance, then it can be pushed all the way. Google’s effort in creating awareness is consistent with the idea of ‘googling’ things, making it simpler and more effective. As a habitual user, I think there are no doors that haven’t opened up once I hit the search button on Google. It has unintentionally promoted education over the web and caters to audiences from all age groups. The best part, I think is that, it gives us an up to date information of the whole earth and beyond (through Google Earth), at the click of a button, and makes us realize what we could lose. But even more importantly encourages us to ‘add content’ and contribute to this Earth, since we are very capable of doing that.
