Living through the baby blues

Living through the baby blues

It is wonderful to be mother. But you must also keep in mind the associated baby blues after child birth. So, you might be irritated, anxious, traumatized and spend sleepless nights a couple of week just after your baby takes birth. Most surprisingly, there is no single trigger behind baby blues. Rather a conglomerate of hormonal, biochemical, genetic, psychological and environmental factors work behind the same.

Honor motherhood

Majority of women with active professional career suffer intensely from baby blues. For them motherhood is depressing. They start considering it as the end of the world. If you feel the same then you must think alternatively. Motherhood is the most prestigious responsibility of all. Honor it and prioritize more on healthy upbringing of your kid. After a few while things will again fall into their usual track. So, your professional life will again be the way it used to be before motherhood.

Maintain balanced relationships

Some women become utterly child-centric after they become mothers. They literally overlook the fact that they have responsibilities towards the other relationships too. Extreme possessiveness for their offspring makes them suffer from baby blues. Get rid of this faulty ideology and give equal priority to the other relationships as well. Besides being a mother, you are a wife, a daughter, a sister, a daughter-in-law and a friend too. So, do equal justice with all other relationships too.

Have faith in others

Motherhood never means that the sole responsibility should be upon the woman. It is totally erroneous to think that you are the only person who is supposed to sacrifice many things in life to become a successful mother. Look around and you will definitely find that there are people in your family who are willing to lend a hand. In most cases you will find your husband willing to assist you in your work. Rely upon them and distribute some of the motherly responsibilities. It will curb your stress and tension.

Love yourself

Most women ignore themselves and become extremely engrossed in their babies. Frustration is sure to occur in such cases after some times. Hence, love yourself as much as you care for your baby. Besides taking care of your baby continue doing everything you have been doing before childbirth like grooming yourself, inculcating your hobbies in leisure etc. Your frustration and depression will hardly show up.

Do not kill your dreams

Motherhood never asks you to kill your dreams forever. Majority of the women kill their dreams and attempt to become exemplary mothers. But something as ‘perfect mother’ is a utopia. Moreover, there is nobody who has the authority to judge whether you are properly meeting up the requirements of motherhood or not. Instead be clear to yourself that you are not ignoring your baby. When you are satisfied with your performance you are absolutely free to pursue your dreams.

Take a break

Getting wholeheartedly engaged in the parental responsibilities and looking after the baby for a prolonged time might become extremely boring. After sometimes you might cease to remain passionate about the motherly chores. Therefore, bring back the lost enthusiasm by taking intermittent breaks. Ask your spouse or someone else to be your proxy for sometimes and take care of your baby when you are not around. In the meanwhile enjoy your break optimally so that you can be energized once again to take up the responsibilities of motherhood.

Get enough rest

The journey from pregnancy to childbirth is extremely exhaustive. It is not uncommon that you might feel awfully lethargic and tired to carry out all the motherly responsibilities of your newborn baby. Therefore, ensure that you have enough rest. You might get disturbed sleep at night due to your newborn baby. But it is vital that you must compensate that with short but sound sleep whenever you can.

Communicate with people

It is never good to confine yourself in between the four walls of your house and get absorbed in your baby only in the post pregnancy phase. It will make you even more sick and depressed. Go out and communicate with people. Include your baby along with you too so that you can manage your motherly responsibilities simultaneously.

Share your feelings

Never brood and confine your feelings within yourself. They can make you even more depressed and morose. So, it is important to share your feelings. Confide in the person you trust the most. It can be anybody, your husband, sibling or your best friend. Speak your heart out. You will feel relieved and refreshed.

Understand your limitations

It is never wise to pressure yourself too much to become a successful mother. You must understand it clearly that every individual has some limitations. Never attempt to achieve the unattainable. You will be unsuccessful in your attempt and that will frustrate you even more.
