Landlord Independent is a quixotic ambition to live on the water!

Icarus did it in flying too close to the sun and was rendered wingless in the process. The same mania inspired Don Quixote to overstretch his limits to achieve his romantic aspirations. Now we have Dan Gladstone and Zachary Weindel hoping to cross the Atlantic on a homemade catamaran dubbed the Landlord Independent. Balancing the plausibility of such an adventure against a materialistic lifestyle, the duo is up for making the real difference. They call it seasteading, and it’s their modest ambition to lead a minimalist’s life.

The state Department of Environmental Management recognizes it as a homemade boat and rightly so. Two 40-foot catamaran hulls containing sixteen 55-gallon drums, act as the pedestals to a 25-square-foot deck. The Landlord Independent is powered by the wind, hydro and solar energy. About 75% of the boat is made from reclaimed materials.

The construction will continue and so will their dream to live on the water!
