Eli Lilly and Company announces an eco-friendly biotechnology center

Eli Lilly and Company has opened doors for discovery and development of some more biotechnology medicines with the official opening of a new state-of-the-art biotechnology center on the West Coast. Dubbed the “Lilly Biotechnology Center – San Diego,” the new eco-friendly facility is located within a 450,000-foot facility known as Campus Pointe, which was developed, and is owned and managed, by Veralliance Properties of San Diego. Veralliance has collaborated with Prudential Real Estate Investors to develop the facility.

Campus Pointe is an eco-friendly facility that includes green credentials like solar arrays that produce renewable energy, water-saving features like low-flow fixtures, reclaimed water for both landscaping and the building’s cooling system and drought-tolerant landscaping. Other green features include HVAC commissioning and carbon dioxide monitoring in order to obtain optimal indoor air quality. The existing building was refurbished by using recycled materials and certified renewable wood products.

Campus Pointe is in the final stages of review to become California’s first LEED-certified Core and Shell facility at the Platinum level. It also has parking facility available for hybrid vehicles and public transport is easily available there.
Lilly’s biotechnology powerhouse will be a place for work focusing on discovering, engineering and conducting Phase I and II clinical trials on potential biologic medicines, with an emphasis on cancer, diabetes and autoimmune diseases, areas of medicine that hold potential promise for novel biotech medicines to help patients faster and more efficiently.
