Composite decking catching on for backyard use

<![CDATA[Traditionally, people use timber for decking but the composite decking is a new and upcoming option that is finding favor with the builders these days. Let’s find out why traditional decking is phasing out in front of composite decking:

Easy availability, storage and use – This decking is easily available as compared to the timber decking. Also, timber is difficult to procure and store for long. Further timber is available in unequal sizes, making it difficult to carry, store and use later. Composite decking scores well on all these points. It is available in standard sizes and hence easy to carry and use later. One doesn’t have to go through the hassle of resizing the units, even if one unit has to replaced you can do so easily by installing another unit right away. That is a real problem with timber. One will have to find unit of the same size – in most cases you will have to resize a longer timber unit – find a contractor and get it changed.

The best thing is that unlike timber, composite decking can be used anywhere – even in coastal areas. Timber tends to soften when used for prolonged periods in water logged areas, hence is it not used in such areas. Composite decking comes like a welcome change in such situations.

Affordable – Composite decking is affordable as compared to normal decking. It affects the overall costs of the backyard.

Low maintenance – Timber fades with times, gets rolled or flitters away in pieces. It requires regular oiling, which involves time and costs. Composite decking is easy to maintain, doesn’t get rotten, and is resistant to fading. It can be used easily anywhere without worrying about water, direct sunlight or too much heat spoiling it. Also timber can take certain weight, whereas composite decking can take up much burden without crumbling.

Simple installation – Composite decking is installed using a sub frame, just as the timber decking is installed. No extra hassle required. Just in case the decking gets spoiled or needs to be changed you can change one unit by another right away. It saves time and cost and also mends the damage right away.

Looks beautiful – Timber is a material being used since time immemorial. It is useful to a certain extent but it doesn’t look all that great. First of all the unequal thickness lend a tacky look, secondly some pieces may be green in color while other may fade and become yellow right from the beginning. Composite decking is far more standardized. All units look the same, have same width and hence lend a better look to the decking.

Composite decking is catching on and the reasons are far too many to ignore. Are you still thinking about using timber?

Summary

Every day new technology, material and elements are being introduced in the home construction segment. A relatively new concept is the use of composite decking, particularly in the backyard.]]>
