A city that is already known to be one of the greenest cities in the Netherlands is taking earth-friendliness a step further this time. A very simple yet unusual change will add to the green credentials of Eindhoven. The public places in Jan van Lieshoutstraat, a primarily pedestrian street flanking a shopping mall, has been cleared of tiny planters and lampposts, giving convenience to walkers.

The proposal of clearing of public spaces came from BYTR, who has been examining the potential for surprising green spots in the city under the attention. GREENSPOTLIGHT is the first design in the context of this research and blends both greenery and street lighting together. For this innovative design, BYTR has integrated a special green public light with living plants acting as a shade. Residing just below the shade is a ring of integrated planters. In this beautiful amalgamation of green lampshades, lights are drooped from cables placed between the street walls.

In order to enhance green practices, the Eindhoven municipal council has asked BYTR to work toward looking for more opportunities to realize green projects in the city center. This green initiative by the council comes under the name Greenspots Eindhoven. GREENSPOGHTLIGHT is also a part of this eco-friendly project.
