Brazil bans illegal sale of Amazon farm products

Due to the increasing pressure from international countries, Brazil has taken steps in controlling the deforestation in Amazon region. It has cracked down on the illegal sale of farm products. Since Brazil grabbed a larger slice of the world agricultural trade, there has been a great level of increase in deforestation of the Amazon region. Earlier in 2004, Brazil saw second ever largest clearing of the land. The Amazon, one of the largest tropical forest and home for about 30 percent of animals all over the world, is also the biggest factor in increasing Brazil’s economy.

Already 17.3 percent of the Amazon forest has been destroyed. This also has led to the increase in global warming due to the increase of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere. Brazil’s environment minister Marina Silva has taken some measures in reducing the amount of deforestation. With 100’s of police and military people getting involved in this mission, they have searched the forests and have curbed the illegal trade of farm products such as soy and beef. Adding to the deforestation, there has been a long dry season in that region which has led to drought and decrease in economy of many places. As a result of this, many people who live nearby have taken illegal steps to earn money.

Though the government, somehow, succeeded in decreasing the deforestation to certain extent, some severe measures have to be taken, to curb these illegal activities completely and also, to find a way, to increase the rural economy.
