Vijay Sharma, a Bangalore-based designer from the Center of Environmental Planning and Technology, has made his dream come true in creating a bamboo-bike that is suited for Indian road conditions. On December 16, 2009, you could see it being unveiled at the BSA Tour of Nilgiris, India’s longest organized bicycle ride supported by BSA, a brand of TI Cycles of India. Sharma makes use of bamboo to replace 3.5 kg of steel tubes with some internationally accepted grade of components.
The bicycle is a reflection of my personal interest in cycling and the desire to use clean transport.

Passing through Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan, Mercara, Irupu, Sultanbathery and Ooty, the debut bike, along with 70 others, will expose itself to tough road conditions. After the tour is over, Sharma will donate his innovation to the tour organizers.
