Australia: John Howard’s climate change stance is in tatters!

cars since june 2004 9

The hopes of Australia being an ’emission-controlled’ nation by the decade’s end can be foreseen to have failed, as it would not be able to meet the Kyoto Protocol emissions targets within the stipulated time! — The Herald Sun reveals.

Tattering John Howard’s stance on climate change, Australia will disappointingly exceed the Kyoto targets. Though emissions from energy consumption are found to have rocketed astoundingly in the past year, the Prime Minister argued that Australia is under no immediate pressure to act on global warming.

Howard justifies his argument with the claims that the emissions across the nation are well below those set out in the Kyoto targets.

The Herald Sun reveals documents figuring emissions by energy sector has jumped 22.5 million tonnes from June 2004 to February this year! This is perhaps equivalent to adding five million cars to Australia’s roads.

Almost 65 per cent of the country’s annual greenhouse emissions can be blamed on power stations, jet fuel. Car-burned petrol and oil refineries along with diesel used in mining are no less contributors in the crime.

Will the Prime Minister continue with his demands for Australia’s being on track to meet its target, even with the emission is considerably proved to be exceeding the target by the decades end? Or, there are chances for his government to equip itself to battle the exceeding emissions at this precarious juncture? This may surely leave the Australians pondering.

But then, why leave the actions at the hands of the government and not every individual resident do his bits to help their coming generation from devastation?
