Architects propose biofuel producing ‘Eco Pods’ for the Filene development

As we have entered a new era, where technology meets sustainability, coming across such project is quite delightful. One such project is the Filene development in downtown Boston. Howeler + Yoon Architecture and Squares Design, the names behind this vertical tower came up with an innovative idea for the construction. The idea was to cover the structure in Eco Pods, which incorporates bio-fuel that produces algae. The new structure would act as a center for research in creating new algae species and different growing methods.

The Filene development will also have massive robotic arms that will be used to move the prefabricated Eco Pods to locations on the building that would be favorable for their growth. The robotic arms will be powered by bio-fuel produced within the pods, while any extra could be put to use elsewhere. After the construction is complete, the eco-pods can be shifted to some other location where they can be reused. The Boston Globe who engaged Howeler + Yoon Architecture and Squares Design to build the tower that is feasible and eco-friendly must be applauded for their efforts.
