<![CDATA[Many contemporary inventions have already been made years ago and most of these inventions have been forgotten or lost their existence. To your amazements, some of the luxuries of today were in use even back then. Let us have a look at a few of these inventions that actually took place in ancient times.

Telescope lens

A spectacle maker, Hans Lippershey in 1608 AD, invented the telescope and Galileo improvised the original version. The telescope lens however has a long history. In 1850, Sir John Layard discovered the Nimrud lens, which is a 3,000-year-old piece of rock crystal. An Italian professor, Giovanni Pettinato opined that the ancient Assyrians knew a lot about astronomy proves that they were using lens in their everyday life as a part of telescope. Even Galileo himself agreed at time that ancient people had already been using telescope long before he invented it.

Concrete

Scientists claim that the Roman concrete was much better in quality and without a sign of environmental damage as compare to the concrete we use in modern times. They declared so after a thorough analysis of the concrete found near Mediterranean Sea. The Romans knew that mixing lime and volcanic rock could make the mixture durable. Archeologists have also found some signs of crystalline structure of Tobermorite, which gives a greater strength to concrete.

Even the central heating system is an ancient innovation. The cities of Ancient Roman civilization used Hypocausts system, which were used to heat private houses and public baths. The structures were designed in a manner that the floor could be kept right above the ground. The spaces left inside the walls allowed the hot air to pass through and create a heating effect.

Plywood

Plywood is in existence since Ancient Egypt. The shortage of high quality wood gave birth to a remarkable invention. In 3500 BC, people started using a thin sheet of high quality wood over low quality wood and made the structures look remarkable. Time changed but people still practice the same old method to use plywood.

Earthquake detector

A famous Chinese astronomer, engineer, mathematician and inventor Zhang (‘Chang’) Heng had already discovered first seism scope in 132 AD. This earthquake detector gave a rough indication of earthquake’s direction of origin. Quite surprisingly, in 2005, scientists from Zhang’s hometown improvised the version and made an earthquake detector that could accurately notice four real life earthquakes simultaneously.

During Parthian period (250BC to 224 AD) in an old village Khujut Rabu, near Baghdad the invention of Baghdad Battery took place. Wilhelm Konig, the German archaeologist during 1936 excavations declared that Baghdad battery was actually an electric battery. Willard Gray later found out that this device could actually produce 2 volts of electricity. It was quite an amazing discovery, considering one would never imagine the ancient world using batteries.

In 7000 BC during Indus Valley civilization, dentistry was in existence. A skilled bead craftsman used to make bow drills which were used to cure tooth tribulations. It is however hard to believe but the dentistry that time made use of some very effective and reliable methods. Archeologists have found teeth, which are almost 9000 years old and has 3.5 mm cavities, which draws attention to the efficient methods they used back then.

The fact that some inventions that have made our lives easy have actually taken place thousand years ago is quite shocking as modern man claim to know it all. Interestingly, human beings in each age and time have been innovative and made some remarkable discoveries.]]>
