Africa cries for aid amidst severe flooding

Africans are struggling with flooding. Be it the horn of Africa or the Sahel or the Savanna or the Velds, the entire African landscape is inundated.

Floods have brought life to a standstill in Africa. From Sudan to South Africa, from west to east, Africa is drenched with flooded waters, inundating homes, destroying crops, damaging property, submerging roads, cutting major areas from minor ones and marooning millions. UN’s Aid is out, but yet to reach several hundreds of thousands of stranded Africans.

At a few severely hit places, communities have been wiped out. Misery of those in war-ravaged areas of the country especially Somalia, Ethiopia and Darfur has doubled. National parks, sanctuaries, wildlife reserves have been inundated killing several faunal species. Lakhs are homeless, with floodwaters reining supreme on their land, in return they having no place to live in. Several have been forced to put up at makeshift camps in schools.

It is quite long since the floodwaters inundated and captured Africa. With several hundreds of carcasses of both humans and animals floating on water, the danger of water-borne diseases is immense. This increases the need of medicines, doctors, nurses and hospitals. The truncated power lines tell their own sordid story of dark Africa.

With several other disasters hitting African coasts in the form of hurricanes and storms, the danger to millions of lives stands.

Africans are crying for the lack of sufficient resources at their disposal. They need food, water, shelter, medicines and aid amidst natural calamity.

First drought and now flooding, such a bizzare climate change calls for attention from not just Africa, but also the entire world community. What Africa is facing today, tomorrow it can be any other nation.
