Go Eco friendly while you sleep

Even when in deep slumber, our bodies perform numerous tasks of breathing, dreaming and regenerating. These occur subconsciously without us having to monitor them. What we can do, however, is to make a little effort to preserve the environment while we sleep. It doesn’t require any exertion and if you make it a habit, you’ll see that you can even profit from it. The world will thank you for your efforts and you stand to gain big time. Here are 7 things you can do before lights out.

1. Unplug appliances

Unplugged Appliances

Small actions can work wonders if made into a habit. Though turning switches off reduces electric current, it doesn’t stop it entirely. Unplugging your appliances before you sleep can help you save humongous amounts of energy. Don’t look at how much you save per day but calculate how much you can save per year or every 10 years and the difference will stun you. Unplug power eaters like computers, laptops, TVs and microwaves.

2. Open those blinds

Open Blinds

Most times, the first stream of sunlight in the morning can be blinding and irritating. But alter your thinking a bit and keep the blinds open. Welcome the fresh air and warm sun into your room. This will save on air conditioning or air purifying costs.

3.Let dishes soak

Dishes soaked overnight

One task that all of us dread is washing dishes. And though dishwashers make things easier, they consume loads of power. So take the green way out and save money on electricity bills by letting dishes soak in soapy water for sometime before washing them. This will save you the time of grappling with the grime and dirt and will even reduce the amount of dish washing powder.

4. Use a sprinkler with a timer

Maintaining a beautiful garden is an exercise in itself but everything beautiful comes with a price. Instead of ordinary sprinklers, use those that are fitted with timers. You’ll know just how much water to use and can avoid wastage. Try to water your plants during the evenings or nights too. This will help plants retain more water and become greener and you won’t have to use too much water.

5.Tighten those faucets

Tighten all Faucets

Dripping water from faucets around the house can be a nuisance and a huge waste of this very precious resource. It can also lead to stagnation of water around the faucets, thereby inviting mosquitoes for a treat. So tighten your faucets to prevent wastage and keep mosquitoes at bay.

6. Turn those lights off

Turn off the lights

Your sky high electricity bill is one reason for you to turn the lights off but an even more important reason is so that you can conserve power and contribute your bit to the environment. Switch off the lights if you’re not using the room.

7. Turn down the thermostat

Set the thermostat

Turning down your thermostat will not take more than a second. Use an extra blanket while you sleep instead and enjoy a three-fold benefit. First, it will help reduce your electricity bill, second, the harshness of the thermostat heat on your skin will be tempered and third, you contribute to the environment.
